Privacy policy
Last updated: 17 August 2026. It covers the Tomate & Basilic app and the website tomate-et-basilic.fr. This is a translation of the French version, which prevails in case of discrepancy.
In one sentence: your garden data stays on your device. It is not sent to anyone, least of all to us. What we do receive are anonymous usage counters, which you can switch off.
1. Who is the data controller
The data controller is Ovega, a French simplified joint-stock company (Société par Actions Simplifiée) with share capital of €4,000, registered with the Lyon Trade and Companies Register under number 879 181 568, with its registered office at 60 avenue Maréchal Foch, Bureau 3, 69006 Lyon, France.
For any question about your data: contact@ovega.fr.
2. Your garden data does not leave your device
Your gardens, beds, plants, journal, photos, reminders, plans and custom plants are stored locally, inside the app, on your Apple device.
The app works without an account and without an internet connection. There is no Ovega server hosting the contents of your garden, and so we have no way to access it, read it or restore it.
3. iCloud, if you turn it on
iCloud sync is optional and stays off until you turn it on yourself in the app.
When it is on, your gardens, your journal and your photos are copied to your own private iCloud space, under your own Apple Account, in an encrypted private database. They then come back on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Ovega has no access to that space: we can neither read, export nor delete what is in it.
If you turn iCloud off, nothing is erased: your data stays on this device, it simply stops travelling. Managing and deleting iCloud content is done from your Apple Account settings.
4. Usage analytics
To understand how the app is used and know what to improve, we use Mixpanel, whose servers used for this processing are located in the European Union.
What we receive
- usage counters: which screens are opened, how many gardens or beds exist, when a limit of the free version is reached;
- technical information about the device: model, operating system version, app version, language, approximate country inferred from the connection;
- a random identifier, generated at installation, which identifies nothing but this installation of the app and is not tied to any identity.
What we never receive
Never your name, your email, the names of your gardens and plants, your photos, your journal, or what you type into a search. Only counters, and a randomly drawn number that identifies nothing but this app.
How to switch it off
You can turn analytics off at any time in the app, under Settings → Privacy settings. The app carries on working exactly the same.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), limited to aggregated, non-identifying measurements, and interruptible by you at any time.
5. Crash reports
When the app closes unexpectedly, a technical report is sent to Bugsnag so that we can fix the fault. That report contains the place in the code where the incident happened, the device model and the operating system version. It does not contain the contents of your garden.
Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the app working and secure.
6. Purchases
The Permaculture+ purchase is carried out by Apple, through the App Store. The entitlements attached to that purchase are managed with RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous purchase identifier and the transaction receipt provided by Apple.
Ovega never sees your payment method: no card number, no bank details, no billing address. That information stays with Apple.
Legal basis: performance of the contract.
7. Weather
The forecasts and weather history for your garden are provided by Apple Weather (WeatherKit). To fetch the weather for the right place, the approximate location of the garden you declared is sent to the weather service at the time of the request. It is not stored on any Ovega server.
Legal basis: performance of the contract, for the feature you asked for.
8. Location
If you allow it, the app reads the device's location at launch in order to offer the right sowing and harvesting dates for your region. That location is used on the device and is not sent to any Ovega server. You may refuse this permission, or withdraw it later in the iOS Settings: the app keeps working, and you can enter your garden's location by hand.
Legal basis: your consent, given through the iOS permission, revocable at any time.
9. Notifications
The reminders you create trigger local notifications, scheduled and displayed by your device. They pass through no server.
10. Retention periods
- Garden data: kept on your device (and in your iCloud if you turned it on) until you delete it. Uninstalling the app erases the local data.
- Usage analytics: kept for 24 months at most, then deleted.
- Crash reports: kept for 12 months at most.
- Purchases: kept as long as needed to manage your entitlements and to meet applicable accounting obligations.
11. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability regarding data about you.
One honest clarification: because your garden data is not held by us, exercising those rights over that content is done directly on your device — you can view, edit and delete everything inside the app. For analytics data, write to us at contact@ovega.fr: the random identifier of your installation, visible in the app, will let us handle your request.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, www.cnil.fr, or with the supervisory authority of your own country.
12. Transfers outside the European Union
Analytics data is processed on servers located in the European Union. The other providers named above (Apple, RevenueCat, Bugsnag) may process certain technical data outside the European Union; those transfers are governed by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
13. Children
The app is not specifically aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal data.
14. The tomate-et-basilic.fr website
This website is a showcase site. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics tool and loads no external resource. The only data processed is what the host records in its technical connection logs.
15. Changes
This policy may change, in particular if the app changes. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page. In the event of a substantial change, we will let you know inside the app.
